Good Food Guide Award

There’s an instant crush of locals the moment the kitchen opens at 6pm. And no wonder, the pie of the day is the biggest this reviewer has ever seen and crammed full of meaty goodness (beef, bacon and mushroom). A standout is the field mushroom stuffed with fetta, sundried tomatoes, roasted capsicum and Spanish onions served with basil pesto: packed with flavour and hearty enough for the most committed carnivore, the vegetables sliced into a colourful riot of swirls and loops. Keep an eye out for “Scotty’s super surf ‘n’ turf”: a tender scotch fillet topped with garlic prawns and half a lobster mornay.

What's not to love about a local right on the water with genuinely friendly staff? And things get even better when the foot arrives. Golden crisp prawns with a tangy plum sauce are the perfect start. The seafood hotpot strewn with hokkien noodles, chunks of fish, silky scallops and fat prawns in a creamy sweet chilli sauce is almost too intense, while the chicken mignon succeeds in combining the flavours of chicken, prawn and bacon without wiping any of the tastes out. There's even a tea bar with a decent range of teas and coffees to compliment the selection of tantalising desserts.

NEWSFLASH: The Riverview Hotel Has been Voted 'Best Waterfront Location'

Good Food Guide Award

By The Sydney Morning Herald - Good Pub Food Guide December 2011.

BEST WATERFRONT LOCATION Riverview Hotel, Smithtown

The beer garden, which runs right down to the water's edge, at this humble hostelry in quiet Smithtown, is the perfect place for an early sunset dinner of oysters doused lightly with coriander and lime and local pan-fried kingfish with ginger and soy reduction. A pleasant surprise and a terrific location.
