What's not to love about a local right on the water with genuinely friendly staff? And things get even better when the foot arrives. Golden crisp prawns with a tangy plum sauce are the perfect start. The seafood hotpot strewn with hokkien noodles, chunks of fish, silky scallops and fat prawns in a creamy sweet chilli sauce is almost too intense, while the chicken mignon succeeds in combining the flavours of chicken, prawn and bacon without wiping any of the tastes out. There's even a tea bar with a decent range of teas and coffees to compliment the selection of tantalising desserts.

The beer garden, which runs right down to the water's edge, at this humble hostelry in quiet Smithtown, is the perfect place for an early sunset dinner of oysters doused lightly with coriander and lime and local pan-fried kingfish with ginger and soy reduction. A pleasant surprise and a terrific location.
The Boathouse Restaurant:
Situated right on the river, the Boathouse is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. You can dine inside or al fresco and you will still be able to enjoy the fabulous views of the Macleay River.
The Boathouse Restaurant buys only the freshest and best seafood available. High standards are maintained with only freshest ingredients used. Children and vegetarians are also catered for.
The Boathouse draws families, friends, couples and work colleagues from all over the Macleay Valley, Mid North Coast and beyond. People come to celebrate a great dining experience with the a la carte menu and blackboard specials, and choose from an extensive range of wines and spirits.
